【Items】

  • Indigo-dyed Driftwood and Glass pot Set
  • Hand-dyed by indigo dyers in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture
  • What is Aizome: A hand-dyeing method using the leaves of the indigo plant (from the knotweed family) with a history of over 1000 years, believed to have been introduced to Japan during the Asuka period. The unique blue color created by Aizome is called "Aiiro" and symbolizes Japan. Overseas, it is known as "Japan Blue." Indigo dyeing offers a wide range of blues. The shade of blue changes depending on the number of times it is dyed, allowing for the expression of numerous blue hues. Characteristics of Aizome: Indigo dye is said to have functional properties, including high antibacterial and deodorizing effects, and insect repellent effects. It has been anecdotally passed down that clothes dyed with indigo did not attract insects when stored.

【Features】

  • Artistic shapes of natural driftwood that evoke vitality
The rich wood grain and undulating tree shape, unique to natural materials, are preserved as they are. The powerful yet somewhat gentle natural form offers different expressions from every 360-degree angle.
  • Deep and beautiful "Aizome" and glass
By indigo dyeing the driftwood, the details of the wood grain are further accentuated, creating a deep blue color. The contrast with the texture of the glass bowl is beautiful, creating a cool yet substantial presence.
  • Design that blends into any space
While incorporating the traditional Japanese and natural elements of "indigo dyeing x driftwood," the addition of glass material allows it to blend into any interior, whether Japanese or Western style.

It can be used in various ways to suit daily life.

  • Terrarium
Enjoy creating your own small natural landscape (terrarium) by planting succulents, air plants, moss, and more.
  • Vase for branches or fresh flowers
Fill the glass bowl with water and use it as a flower vase for seasonal branches or cut flowers. The indigo-dyed driftwood acts like a frame, making the vibrant green of plants and the colors of flowers stand out even more beautifully.
  • Aquarium
It can also be used as a small aquarium for small fish like medaka. If you add aquatic plants, the flickering water and light through the glass will create a soothing space.
  • Objet/Interior decoration
Even simply displayed empty, it stands as a magnificent art object. It is also recommended as a tray for your favorite accessories or small items.
